Like many of my generation growing up in the Midwest, my childhood was spent exploring suburbia on bike with almost daily forays to the creek which carved the ravines surrounding my neighborhood. I spent hours each day during the summer wandering the hills, catching crawdads and snakes, tracking deer, and honing my archery skills.
My problem, as I saw it, was that I did not come from a hunting family. My father did not hunt or fish, though he would take us camping and canoeing often. I was not allowed to own a BB gun because my parents really did believe I would shoot my eye out. I didn't know anyone who would take me hunting, so the closest I could get was shooting my arrows in the backyard and exploring the creeks.
Now, I currently live in Idaho and enjoy all aspects of hunting and fishing in this state, though I consider myself quite the novice when it comes to hunting. As a father of four, I do my best to expose my children to hunting, fishing, and all other aspects of being outdoors. Conservation is paramount to this exposure. With hunter numbers in decline and the corresponding loss in conservation dollars, it is more important NOW for all hunters to take a kid hunting. It is essential that all who love the outdoors contribute to conservation.
The goal of Targhee Media is to create content to educate, motivate and inspire the recruitment of the next generation of conservationists through hunting, fishing, and other forms of outdoor recreation.
If you believe in this mission the way I do, let's collaborate.
